It’s getting warmer with each day, which means summer is inevitable. And what makes summer great? Ice cream!! But not just some ice cream. We’re talking about good stuff. Whiskey hazelnut, Peanut Butter Chocolate Precel or Honey Lavender… After craft beer and artisan cafes and bakeries, it’s time for artisanal ice cream!
Vancouver food scene is expanding rapidly, and that includes every sweet treat you can imagine. And among them, you will also find any form of ice cream, you can think of. Our recommendations will be to check all of them since we have few months of warm weather ahead of us. And there is no better refreshment than a cone field with a scoop of creamy, flavorful ice cream.
Rain or Shine Ice Cream
Seasonal, fresh, natural, and locally sourced ingredients, that are grown organically whenever possible. That’s Rain or Shine’s trademark.
The formula of their ice cream is custom made without any soy, corn syrup, modified milk ingredients or artificial extracts and flavors! It is a Philadelphia style ice cream, which means 100% dairy with no eggs.
They offer both regular and seasonal flavors. The most popular are honey lavender, coffee toffee (made with local JJbean beans), blueberry balsamic and of course classic salted caramel.
Earnest Ice Cream
Another great place to grab a scoop or a pint of ice cream. The usually produce small batches “to experiment with foraged ingredients like fresh spruce bud and elderflower”.
Seasonal flavors like 33 Acres of Malt (in collaboration with one of the best Vancity breweries!), lemon poppy seed, miso ginger! strawberry basil, rhubarb oat crumble, rotate alongside classics like salted caramel, london fog, whiskey hazelnut and mint chip.
Good news for coffee lovers, they serve affogatos (espresso poured over ice cream) using locally roasted coffee.
